Santa Isabel is a 300 hectare farm in the superbly mountainous and lush area of Alta Verapaz. A third of the estate is a dedicated natural forest reserve which supports the biodiversity and overall balance of this rich natural region. The farm is 5 generations old! That’s right! It was founded in 1875 and handed down through generations. It is currently owned and run by father son duo Luis Valdés Snr and Jnr. Luis Jnr, nicknamed Wicho, left the farm to study agriculture before returning to take over management of the farm. Over the decades he has made innovations on the farm such as reduction of use of chemicals, improved composting and organic fertilisers and an epic nursery which comprises over 20,000 seedlings.
This particular Microlot is a combination of single day harvests from Santa Isabel that were identified as extra sweet and clean. It is absolutely stunning as a black coffee. This has some of those refined and heavenly cup characteristics and we simply adore it. We are grateful to source coffee from a family owned and run farm dedicated to quality, beauty and community. As Wicho says about his own farm “we love it here”. What more to say.
